In 1997, the company DomiNIC was among the first to release a software product for the fully automated processing of domain name registrations. Over the years, DomiNIC evolved into a comprehensive domain and DNS management system with integrated customer and user administration tools.
- In 1994, Sven-Holger Wabnitz first had the idea to automate the complex processes of domain registrations. Under the umbrella of a private company with about a dozen employees the DomiNIC software was developed in Perl.
- In 1995, DomiNIC was the first software product of its kind to hit the market in Germany.
- In 1996/1997, the program was rewritten in Java. This new version already included a workflow engine which provided for a quick response time to any processing changes.
- In early 1998, the DomiNIC software was passed into the hands of the DSS Corporation for Digital Security mbH.
- Since then the product has continuously been advanced through further development.
- In mid 2010, the DSS was transformed into DomiNIC GmbH.
